Our son was born without the first layer of skin that acts as a barrier to irritating environmental elements and we were faced with one of the most challenging and heart-wrenching experiences of our lives. Without this first layer of skin, our son would develop hives from head to toe that would blister, ooze, dry and harden to calluses, and often times scar.
For the first three years of our son's life, he suffered and we did everything we could to find him the comfort he so desperately needed. Visits to his primary care doctor, dermatologists and allergists were often ended with them giving us prescriptions for antibiotics and steroid creams. We were disturbed by this trend and wanted a solution less medically invasive. We spent hundreds of hours on the internet, made life style changes to our household and applied Homeopathic remedies to our son's skin care routine. We set out to find handcrafted soap products that would enhance his bathing experience and that did not contain detergents and other unnecessary chemicals that could irritate his sensitive skin. It is these, HANDCRAFTED soap products with natural oils and organic butters, that facilitates the healing of our son's skin.
It has recently come to our attention that Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) and Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) have launched a campaign against Artisanal (Handcrafted) Soap Makers. "For your personal protection," these fine ladies have created "The Personal Care Products Safety Act (Senate Bill S.1014)." This act will require fees, licenses, and inspections that will make it impossible for small businesses to continue running or producing Artisanal Soap. Simply put, this means the Artisanal Soap you buy at Wholefoods, Trader Joe's, your local Famer's Market, Co-Ops, could be something of the past as Cottage Industries will be regulated right out of business.
And in the middle of this is Corporate America, who will continue to sell their commercial products that often times contain ingredients (Parabens, Lauryl Sulfate, Triclosan) that pose the risk. And, it is Corporate America who give handsome campaign donations to our elected officials who once again are acting "For Our Personal Protection" against holistic and homeopathic alternatives.
